THE 2009 FINAL TRIP GOLF OUTING TO CAMERON HIGHLANDS

The year 2009 swiftly coming to the end and all a sudden we are at the very end of the year meaning we are getting closer to the year 2010 and closer to the year 2012 of which been widely spoken as the year coming to.........is it? Certainly not to S2U.

Come what may, to S2U its just another year and we do have lots of things up our sleeves to do. To start with, we planned for another golf outing to one of our favourite spots .....Cameron Highlands. It's sure nice to be backed high up in one the sensational hill resorts sited on the north running south range dividing the east and west of the Peninsular.

The weather as expected, was nice and cool with the sun shining brightly in the first half of the day. In the afternoon it was however not so friendly. The strong easterly winds brought chaotic to the entire familiar tourist resort with its heavy down pour. Its alright with most of the areas but not so with the golf course of which certainly our main priority and concern....especially to the members of S2U namely Kelvin, Gary, Mike, Steve, Charlie, Dennis, Andy and a guest of ours Douglas Lim.

On the first day, after a quick lunch, a flight comprising of Kelvin, Gary, Dennis and Douglas happily rushed off to tee-off at the Cameron Highlands Golf Club. They managed to reach the third green before the weather turned ugly and chased them back to the almost completed newly built golf club. The game was called off. No way can you play in that type of torrential rain.

Adding salt to the wound, Dennis suddenly got an emergency phone call and had to head for home. That too goes with Douglas. He had to return for KL too. That short listed our list to six from the original eight. To Gary, what to do, no problem, more food to eat mah......

So, our golf outing instead of a two-day play, we managed to tee-off only on the second day and obviously in the early morning for we were warned that by 1400 its almost impossible to play with the daily afternoon rain.

Nonetheless, we certainly had a good round of golfing. The entire course since the last time we played, have improved tremendously. Not surprising for we were informed that HRH Sultan of Pahang will be coming to officially open the new beautiful golf club in December this year. Well, its certainly a good news for all golfers heading for this hill resort.
On the first night at Cameron, we had our first taste this time round of the steam-boat at one of our favourite steam-boat restaurant way up on Brinchang hills. The serving was good added with the fine selection of food namely chickens, prawns, crabs and lots of varieties of veg's and Chinese tea to go down with the red wine....wow, you can never ask for more......no, maybe not but not so to Gary.....still not enough.....the weather so cold....must eat more lah...

....Kelvin and Mike anxiously waiting for the final round....ayo....bila mau masak aah.....

On the way back to our hide-out, the Heritage, after the morning golf outing, the S2U President, Kelvin was attracted by a nice looking piece of structure, stopped by at the new Hotel De La Ferns for a cup of tea and was honoured and kindly offered by the Duty Manager of the Day, to have a guided tour of the lovely hotel. The interior was fantastic and what more of its views in particular over looking the golf course and the beautiful hills in the far distance.

The De La Ferns certainly a well planned and constructed hotel, a real attraction for golfers basing on its locality and not forgetting a real puller for foreign tourists, again due to its commanding site and views and what more of its very articulate, meticulous and outstanding workmanship of a construction of a hotel building.

The man behind the lovely hotel, not surprisingly is the ever smiling Mr Bala Krisnen and apparently a friend of our great Captain Zainal, the former GM of Boh Tea Sg Palas, Brinchang.

One for the album, the President of Sikit2 Untong, Kelvin Kong,
alongside with the owner of
Hotel De La Ferns, Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands, Mr S. Bala Krisnen
With full of smiles, Mr Bala with Captain Zainal well absorbed, answered numerous questions from the curious members of S2U on his vast experience and success in the hotel and farming lines, including questions of ...."....any special discount mah, now we are friends...."

Time to replenish after the grueling round of golf and again we heard of Gary being unhappy for not given a free lift by Charlie in spite of the wet soggy fairways....sure enough, Charlie got another double #+*## by Gary!
Whatever, now its time for makan at the Kumar's in Tanah Rata....makan lagi!
Standing tall, Mike welcoming all to Hotel De La Ferns for the golf prize giving and the second night dinner in the Cameron. Only six out of the earlier eight survived to the final night in Cameron Highlands, after Dennis and Douglas Lim unfortunately had to return to KL for unavoidable reasons. Prior to that Allen Adnan couldn't make it due to his eye operations-we hope and pray for him a speedy recovery and can observe the holes better whilst putting.

Announcing the winners, here Mike and Kelvin seem to be still finalizing the actual winners for the 1st and 2nd nine and the overall winner......but by the look of it, it sure not going to be easy ....banyak not happy mah.....how can I play 14.....how can I play 19.....how can I play 24. .....anyway to the winners, well done mate.....to the #*^*#.........don't worry tonight lots of food mah and no limit.......makannnnn....

Peace at last....yes, ....cool, fresh and silent night.... the surroundings rolling hills, dripping wet after the late afternoon rain, all of a sudden, filled with obvious quietness, with the once in a while, the clear sound of snoring coming from the Heritage Apartment, sure denotes the members of S2U had piped-down for the evening, after a hectic long day of golfing and EATING!.....good-night, sleep tight, sweet dreams ....yeah of more food....z z z z z z
Road-side pull-over....the durian finger licking good!.....yes, on their way back withdrawal to KL, Mike, Steve, Charlie and Andy enjoying the durian galore at Tapah - Cameron Batu Lapan.....it was a real pull-over....mesti berhenti punya!.......not happy with their almost full tummies of durian, Charlie borong some more....whoa penuh DURIAN in Mike's merz.....the durian was really fantastic.....remember BATU 8 Tapah mah.

Wait a minute! From a reliable source, we were told Gary together with Kelvin, heading back from Ipoh too had his merz loaded with durians.....wah, nothing can stop these guys from the King of Fruits....certainly not Gary.....remember what Dr Lee said?.....watch the tummies mate!

Before tee-off check your bellies mate........

Before teeing off, we were adviced by Dr Lee as to check our physic in particular our centre portion. I think I do appreciate Dr Lee's concerned after watching the above picture! One of the players, no name mention, needed his driver to support his nine months tummy!.....must be due to the no limit amount of telur rebus, mee goreng, rojak, steam-boats, roti-bakar, coffee, beer, etc......but what to do....the food is so good mah....

....around the club house KRAT....

The breath-taking view, sad not many seems to appreciate, as seen from the S2U favourite morning coffee corner of the club house. It is here that we the S2U members tend to laze and downing the eggs, mee goreng, lots of coffee/tea and trying to solve the political crisis, after each gruelling round game of golf
In fact from this well tinted glass corner too, we could sort of observe whose coming or going!.....wah, mau jadi CNN kah?.....

The Krat swimming pool of which yet to be explored by S2U. In the rear well protected by a high fencing ( mama mia....I did find few golf balls in the poo! ), is the par 4 fairway No 1. Wonder if ever, S2U tends to take up swimming.....anybody?.....Kelvin?...Gary?....Mike?....Allen?.....

HARI RAYA 2009 WITH S2U.....

The S2U Chairman, Gary presenting Allen with a Hari Raya hamper of which apparently seems to be filled with some Milo packets ....must be to add extra boosters for this iron-man

"...Selamat Hari Raya Engku..."

Mike receiving his once a year Selamat Hari Raya hamper from the mighty S2U President....

" Selamat Hari Raya Mike ...eh, don't forget my supply of buah kurma ok...."

Two of the five Andy's cucus, Marsya and Hannah showing-off the hampers their grandad received from S2U and the ampows received from Kelvin Kong, President of S2U......thank you Kelvin and the lovely members of S2U.....terima kasih.....

.....Selamat Hari Raya.....lunch at KRAT

The Muslim brothers of S2U recently in the month of Shawal hosted a food watery lunch for their S2U members.

To add to the fine dishes served, a special chicken home cooking dish brought by Allen swiftly found its way to the empty hungry tummies.... alamak asking for more!!

Whatever, thank you Allen for the fantastic choice and a special thank to your charming wife Kak Chun in preparing them...terima kasih...kalau bolih buat lagi.....

"....wow, that was a good lunch..." added Mike...."....hope the bill kurang lebih not too high mah...."

To Charlie....why worry, as championed by Gary..."..today eat while you can.....tomorrow...well tomorrow is tomorrow.....eat some more.....kah kah kah....."

....look....who's here for tea.....

Last week, whilst having our normal cool down in our favorite cozy corner of the club house after a game of golf, we somehow had a pleasant surprised .....its the Club Manager, Cdr Lim Cho Chin that joined us for a cup of tea (would you believe coffee? ...whatever). Cdr Lim dropped by to thank the President and the rest of the S2U for the kind gestures and good words on the promising effort of keeping the golf course of KRAT to a very high and challenging standard in particular the greens and the fairways itself. As for the S2U, we reciprocate in our normal way by ensuring Cdr Lim gained a few kilos that very morning ....... apalagi.....makan la.....Well, Cdr Lim thank you for dropping by and keep up the good job well done.

.....dinner night out at the Meridien...

A night to remember......2 reasons. Firstly, again with the kind gesture of our President, Kelvin Kong, recently, who was kind enough as to entertain us with a wonderful dinner at the prestigious Hotel Meridien, Kuala Lumpur. The other reason was....two of our buddies failed to locate the hotel.....mama mia!......and what more to make matter worse, the traffic on that Friday evening was not helping the two comprades.....after a while both of them gave up and headed home with empty stomach..... or did they?
Anyway, for those that attended the dinner, hosted by Kelvin, were Gary (King of Eaters), Steve, Charlie and Andy. For Gary, he was smiling and really enjoying the large varieties of main course and desert.....yeah, less members more food mah.....
Apart from the delicious food and a good interesting crowd, it must also be noted of the fantastic evening view with the sun setting in the far distance west.
To our S2U President, Kelvin Kong, a big thank you from all of us and we certainly look forward many more of such enchanting evening with you......terima kasih.

History created on the golf course by the S2U President

Yes, today, the 30th June 2009, history in the genius creativity in the world of golf been created by the mighty S2U at the Selesa Golf Resort, Bukit Tinggi, Pahang....... Malaysia of course (Malaysia Boleh).
The normal Tuesday golf outing of the S2U saw the magnificent six.....namely Kelvin the S2U President, Mike, Steve, Charlie, William and Andy parading for golf at the Selesa Golf Resort. After a quick healthy breakfast at the Mamak shop at Bukit Tinggi, we were off for the single nine, and that too not after Kelvin having shown us all his lovely new golf shoes......baru beli punya.
All of us basically tee off well and were all eager to sweat it out and to do well. After having gone for a few holes through the wet moist fairways and greens, suddenly Kelvin sounded the alarm bell....disaster struck......his proud new golf shoes betrayed him......ahhyaa....ini macam mana boleh.......kasut balu yo.....
Fortunately for him, out of the blue a cobbler turned up..........Mike Mustafa ......to have a check and see on the damage. He was given a five-minute break to do whatever possible (pic above).

.......yes, after been attended by the specially imported cobbler (Tapah mari), Kelvin is ready to tee off.

.....look at the stance.....but hey, wait a minute.......what's that with the right shoe?.......can we have a close up?.....

......OH MY GOD!.......believe it or not, this certainly should go in the Malaysian Book of Record.......100 % proven! ....... Malaysia Boleh.....even with this improvised, the gaping crocodile jaw golf shoe, fitted and tied up with an empty mineral bottle, Kelvin still managed to soldier on and even ended with three pars!......yeah, so don't play play ......
Anyway, I was told Kelvin is keeping this golf pair for the coming Annual Golf Tournament!

Nasi Lemak Special ........Mike Style....

......percaya tak percaya.....Nasi Lemak Special.....this time Mike Style....well, that's what we had after a very interesting round of golf on Tuesday morning in Selesa Golf Resort! Mike on his own initiative brought the home cooking nasi lemak with its hot yummy sambal, telur rebus, ayam goreng and ikan bilis and also complete with saucers, fork and spoon......well done Mike....something for a change. For those who missed it......Gary, Allen and William.....well, you can kick your own butt for you all really manya lugi ho......

THE GREAT CREW BEHIND THE LOVELY COURSE OF KRAT....

Whilst golfing, one tends to see daily, a lone ranger passing by, smartly dress and mounted on his turf-mate, making his daily and important inspections, ensuring the course been kept to the best ever standard if not better even to the so called 5 stars golf course. Yes, salute to him....our charming Apalanaidu, the KRAT Club Superintendent. Without him, I doubt the course could be as good......

For senior members at the KRAT, the ever familiar face pushing the grass cutting machine all these years, is none other than our great Raja..... no, no nothing to do with the istana, this is our devoted Rajasingam ...coolly and not in the least bothered of the in coming golf balls..... ensuring the greens are well trimmed and to add some headache to golfers due to the fast and fantastic greens!

When golfers hop from green to green and also from bunkers to bunkers, not many are aware the sole man behind the greens ensuring the greens are properly watered daily and the bunkers are properly raked, he is none other than out ever ready to smile with a big Good Morning Boss.... yes, the tall lean Anthony....sometimes with his big Mexican sombrero.

As seen here, the only lady you can find on the course, almost daily, without fail, none other then Unamalai, and for all these years, she will be sweeping the leaves, day in day out, as to ensure the fairways are cleared of any rubbish....she is so dedicated and we are certainly proud of her plus all the entire crew....keep up the good work guys......

....after a good day of golfing.....

....yes, after a good game ( yeah, maybe sometimes not so good ....OB sana.... pond sana ..... bunker sini....), its nothing like a good drink plus something to replace the almost exhausted and empty stomach ..... its here that we have the lovely Mila the food expertise from the club kitchen. Just tell your need and vol la.... within minutes you are ready to gulp down be it fried rice, fried noodles, sandwiches, boiled eggs, or whatever..... Mila ( Filipino of origin ......mahbuhai) certainly will be ready to serve you well.....eh eh ...... strictly food and drinks only mate.... Dennis as normal loves to pay the bill...to Mila

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GUYS.........

Recently after the normal round of golf in the early Tuesday morning at the KRAT, the staunch and never miss an outing S2U members, had a get together at our regular quiet corner in the air-con bar of the club house as to celebrate the birthday of five of our members.....namely Kelvin Kong the President, Gary Chang the Chairman, Charlie Cheong the Treasurer, Allen Adnan and William Wong. It was supposed to be a surprise for the birthday guys....in a way it sort of back-fired...two of them, Allen and William failed to turn up!
No matter, Gary was very pleased, for less people...bigger share lah....anyway, on behalf of all S2U members, we wish all five of them a Happy Birthday and may we continue to celebrate for many many more years to come....cheers mate.

The three birthday boys ....Kelvin and Charlie busy reading their cards .....looks as if they take it hard to accept the figures (age) written inside...they must have multiplied my age by two or threes mah.... how can.... anyway, Gary busy lighting the candles
The rest of the S2U that celebrated the birthday together with the birthday boys ......notice something?......they were so exited about the getting together, singing the birthday song, getting their best wishes cards...everybody forgot to blow out the candles.....until Andy commented.. ..and who blew out the candles....well none other than the not the birthday boy.....Steve! .....he sure seemed eager and look forward for the blow job!

Bid Farewell.....

....Innalillaah wainna illahi raji'un.....
Yes, today we received the sad news from Kota Bharu Kelantan on the depart of Puan Aminah, the ever charming, kind at heart wife of Willie Wan Idris, permanently leaving behind not only her loving husband but also the members of S2U and families.
We will certainly miss her warmth smile and presence especially at dinner parties and get togethers. We pray for her and may she deservingly be peacefully placed on the right path to Heaven forever more ..... insyAllah. As for Willie, we the S2U also pray for you in this time of need and if we could be of any help, you know where to get us and we certainly could bring some kind of comfort the way we know best. Take care, God bless.

ALLEN THE BIRTHDAY BOY .....

What do you know and what can you ask for more? Recently Allen Adnan celebrated his birthday (how old was he?...well, now where is my calculator?....) and believe it or not, mid way to the 2nd Green, he was presented with a lovely baby bird that apparently had fallen from a nearby tree. In other words, for his birthday he was given a new form of life to look after....you should see the smile beaming on his face....all coming with sincerity deep from his heart.....thanking God the Almighty for the special gift.....and from all of us S2U its "Happy Birthday Engku"

CALLING FOR AN URGENT MEETING.......

"....eh Allen....wait don't go back yet..... something crops up, we got to have an urgent meeting lah....."

"...........Engku, I think not appropriate to have a meeting at the car park under the tree.... the police sure declare unlawful assembly one...."

Part of the S2U members during the recent urgent called meeting.....with Allen stressing his views...

MORE THE REASONS TO BE WITH SIKIT2 UNTONG

Very soon, another year would have gone by. The staunch members of Sikit2 Untong certainly do look forward for another very much touching get together as again to celebrate our anniversary and existence and also not forgetting, as at the very same time to look back at the path we have gone through all these years.
Good or bad, do always remember that at the back of our mind of why we need that togetherness .... of bersatu .... yes, the desire need for one another especially as often mentioned by a friend of mine, Jack Yew...." we have now entered the borrowed-time".... so, do make the most of it, remain active, be healthy, be cheerful, avoid making enemies (not at this stage of life anyway) and always remember that it is easy to find or make friends but it is never easy to find real trusted friends that you can really lean on in time of need.
With the above thoughts in mind, in particular relating to those retirees practising BDN {busy doing nothing}, this is what we members of S2U as week after week goes by, look for.... the ever feeling of being wanted and togetherness simply for the betterment in all aspects of life before we finally and eventually brings the curtain down.
Nonetheless, in spite of what we preached as of above, lately and sadly we have had another two of our S2U members decided to call-it-a-day and retreat into their very own shells for reasons only made known to them.
Due to this sudden development, a S2U meeting was forced to be held (not at the carpark or under the tree) at the club house and attended by most of the S2U members.
After a long and deliberate discussions, it was eventually and unanimously accepted that the two S2U members' membership to be immediately terminated but at the same time to be appointed as honorary members. To them, we S2U never say die members, bid them both the very best to the path they have chosen.

Thursday, March 19, 2009

After the heavy discussion, its time for our look-forward makan ..... apparently this the only session none of the members especially Gary opens his mouth other than to eat!

Dennis, though an honorary member, but certainly an active and lively one! Here (pic) Dennis sharing some of the light moments with Kelvin during our normal session of teh, nescafe, telur rebus, mee goreng, pisang and what not after a round of golf.

NEW HONORARY MEMBERS

Willie, as we come to know, at his own request and for his very own reason, decided to call it a day and throw in the towel. He decided to be no longer an active player be it in golf or as a member of S2U. As agreed upon by all members of S2U, Willie is now one of our new honorary members.

To Willie and family, S2U wishes you the best and may your decision and path taken will guide you to your goal and taste as warranted to your liking - adious.

At his very own request, Andrew decided to be side-lined from being part of an active member of S2U and he is now also appointed as one of our honorary members.

To Andrew and his family, S2U wishes you the very best and we thank you for all your contributions especially the lovely ikan you managed to deliver for our occasional lunches at the club house- adieu.

LUNCH......courtesy of the retirees

Yes, by now the whole world should have known...........S2U can never move a day without one way or other getting involved in their favourite pastimes.....MAKAN.....

Recently, simply not allowing those that had retired from their military service to get away easy, they were gestured to give all the ever hungry members a free makan. Why? Well because they just got their pension increased!......so, makan lagi........watch the tummy though.....

Members enjoying the lunch under the watchful eye of sudahbayar at the far end of the table!
